Falling Up returned to the studio this fall to begin work on a brand new album. With some progress made already on the process, the band posted a report to the fans on the recent happenings. Here's the blog...
"Well well well. Things have been pretty great here in Rhode Island at the studio. We have been pulling 16 hour days to try and get all the stuff we want in the music. I must admit, it is turning out to be a bit of an extensive project. We have been recording all organic drum loops and effected guitars and rhodes as synths. We have also tracked each song chronologically as will be numbered on the record. I just wanted to carefully construct the order so that it will be more of an arrangement than just a record that is put together randomly. I think the focus for me while making this record has been trying to make great moments more than just having structured songs. I have learned a lot in the past few years with songwriting and, by no means, do I believe I have got it down easy, but I have just learned what the priorities are in making a song worth recording. I used to focus on the catchy parts of my melodies and focus on making a bombastic chorus that would typically turn out to be not as catchy as I imagined in my head. But being able to understand each part of the instrumentation, and for the first time, direct and control the guitar parts to weave in and out of the melodies, have opened up doors that allow for great moments on the record. I am hoping that this album will not have 14 great songs in entirety, but just intriguing moments and sections. As for the lyrics...
here is a sample to pretty much give you an idea of the entire project:"Fell quick to the snow, still life
Sprawled out in the cold, he said
There was dancing on the ceiling,
I was strapped down to the anchors"
- from the song "Lotus and the Languorous"I am exited for this record to be finished and for us to hopefully be able to give everyone some samples of what it sounds like.
Yours Truly,
Fangs"
